Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This policy explains what Goanna Fencing collects when you use this site or send us the quote form, why we collect it, who else sees it and how to reach us about it.

Who we are

Goanna Fencing runs this site and arranges fencing quotes across Melbourne and regional Victoria. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Goanna Fencing. Your use of the site itself is covered by our website terms of use.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.

What we collect

When you send the quote form, we collect:

  • your name and phone number
  • your email address, if you give it (it's optional)
  • your suburb or town
  • the types of fence or work you picked, and whether you need an old fence taken away
  • roughly how many metres, if you tell us
  • anything else you write in the notes box
  • the address of the page you sent the form from

To stop spam, the form notes if a hidden box meant for bots was filled in. It also notes if the form was sent less than three seconds after the page loaded. Those notes are saved with your enquiry.

If the quick check is showing on the form, it checks that you picked the right icon. Your answer isn't kept.

Your internet address (IP address) is held briefly to stop the same form being sent over and over. It isn't saved with your enquiry.

If you call us, we note your name, number and what you need so we can quote. You can ask a general question without giving your name, but we need a name, phone number and suburb to quote a job.

Why we collect it

We use your details to:

  • get back to you about your quote
  • arrange a time to measure up, if the job needs it
  • prepare your written quote and, if you go ahead, book in the work
  • keep a record of what was asked and quoted

We share your details with our installers, who quote and do the work, and with the service providers listed below. We don't add you to a mailing list.

Who sees your details

Our team reads your enquiry and passes it to our installers. They contact you about the job, measure up where it's needed, send you the written quote and do the work.

The fencing business that carries out the work for us.

We also use a few service providers to run this site and handle enquiries. They hold your details for us and only use them to provide their service:

  • Vercel, which hosts this site and keeps standard records of visits to it
  • Neon, the database where each enquiry is saved as soon as it arrives
  • Mailgun, which emails each enquiry to our team
  • PipeReply, the follow-up system our team uses to keep track of each enquiry and reply to it
  • Google Analytics, which counts visits (see Cookies and analytics below)

Some of these providers store data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. We would also share your details if the law required it.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to see how people use this site: which pages are visited, how far down a page people scroll, and when someone taps the phone number or email address, or sends the form. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. It doesn't receive what you type into the form.

When you start on the quote form and the quick check is switched on, this site sets one cookie of its own. It only remembers which icon you were last asked to pick, so the next check asks for a different one. It holds none of your details and lasts up to a year.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings. The site still works, and you can still send the form. Google also offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics.

How long we keep it

We keep your enquiry for as long as we need it to quote, do the work and keep our business records. After that we delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner, unless we need to keep it for a job that's underway or the law requires us to keep it.

Keeping it safe

The form is sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Enquiries are saved in a password-protected database that only our team can get into, and we only pass them to the installers who need them to quote and do the job.

No system is completely secure. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the law requires.

Seeing or correcting your details

You can ask what details we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything that's wrong. Call us on (03) 9123 6468 or send a note through the quote form. We'll check it's you before we share or change anything.

Making a complaint

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, call us on (03) 9123 6468 or use the quote form and tell us what happened. We'll look into it and get back to you.

If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). Their website explains how to make a privacy complaint, and you can also reach them through oaic.gov.au.
